In short, if something is broken or doesn't work well there is usually not a 6 month or more wait to see a change. Its nice being able to point something out and either seeing it addressed or explained away effectively. Even the changes that made my life in space harder made sense in the grand scheme of things. Changes are quick and efficient, and updates are always pretty well thought out and implemented. And the multiple starting planet options really opens up each new playthrough to be a new and different challenge.īut in my opinion, the main thing that attracts me is that the creators Ravien and Vermillion are active, vocal, and are willing to listen to the players.
The CPU system is different and in my opinion much better (but still not perfect), and how a ship is built matters more for flight mechanics. Space combat has more enemies, more danger, and more reward. Combat is more intense because the AI is smarter, faster, and hits harder. Gathering resources is more challenging with mining changes. RG (which I play in the most) makes everything a bit more intense.
Well, I take that back slightly, it is fun when I just want to relax and not be challenged. I have played them for so long that the vanilla game just isn't all that fun for me anymore. But RE/PE and Reforged Galaxy are amazing mods. If you are enjoying the laid back play experience, then Vanilla is fine. IMHO, start with PE before pushing your family into RFE. It also appears that solar efficiency is lower you cannot run a full base with 2 solar panels. It took me about 60 rounds with the sniper rifle to take down my first Zirax welcoming party. I just rented a new Empyrion server and set up the Project Eden Multiplayer mod. I picked a hard starting planet and I can tell you it is definitely a much more difficult survival experience, which is what I wanted.
I just graduated from vanilla to Project Eden and am really enjoying it.
